Hello!

I'm Ismael Martinez Ramos, a principal software developer in Edinburgh, Scotland, at People's Postcode Lottery. Nearly three decades in, I've gone from building servers and wrangling networks to designing event-driven systems on AWS, and lately to helping teams adopt AI without losing the plot. I maintain teams-for-linux, an open source Teams client used by around half a million people a month, and I write about what I learn.

What I'm working on now

AI enablement

I lead AI adoption where I work, developer-first: the people building these systems need to understand them before anyone else can rely on them. Part of that is routing between local and hosted models, so teams reach for the right one rather than the biggest.

Event-driven systems

Most of my architecture work is event-driven, on AWS. I care about the unglamorous parts that decide whether a system survives contact with production: observability, clear contracts, and knowing what happens when a consumer falls over.

Open source

I maintain teams-for-linux and a handful of smaller tools, and I contribute to other projects when I can, among them aws-cdk, electron, and asyncapi. Open, accessible, and respectful of your data is the bar I aim for.
